President Koroma Runs Marathon for Street Kids

The President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma on last Sunday ran in the Sierra Leone Marathon held in Makeni. The 36-mile run organized by street child attracted hundreds of local and international participants.

 

Police Mount Tough Security at Lungi Airport

Police attached to the Lungi International Airport have instituted watertight security throughout the airport and its perimeter fence. The tough security action is aimed at eradicating persistent loitering and minor incidences of crime in the airport. The board and management of the airport authority have described the action as a mere development that will enhance proper security.

 

Cancer Kills More than Malaria and HIV/AIDS

The country’s only Pathologist Dr. Owizz Koroma has informed stakeholders in the Northern Province that Cancer is more dangerous and harmful to human beings than any other killer diseases such as Malaria and HIV/AIDS. He made this statement during the opening of a two-day symposium and awareness-raising program organized by Thinking Pink Breast Cancer Foundation at the Masuba Midwifery School on Thursday 23rd May 2013 in Makeni town.

 

Airtel Explains Network Challenges

The Management of Airtel Sierra Leone has explained to journalists at Country Lodge in Freetown about some of the network’s challenges. According to the Managing Director of Airtel Sierra Leone, RVS Bhullar, the company is struggling with the spectrum capacity provided by the regulatory body National Telecommunication Commission (NATCOM) to provide quality and effective network for their subscribers.

 

Operation WID not yet in Bo

Even though stakeholders in Bo have met and agreed on Operation WID, nothing seems to have been done about the operation in Bo. At the stakeholders meeting at the Bo Eastern Police Station Conference Room, it was agreed that the city was to get rid of “all society bush houses in the heart of town, stop the parking of vehicles and trading along Bojohn Street, Dambala Road, Fenton Road, Mahei Boima Road and Kissy Town Road.”


 Le1.5 Billion Spent on Abortion Complication

A report titled ‘Unsafe Abortion in Sierra Leone’ has stated that the Government of Sierra Leone spent an estimated Le1Billion annually to treat women with abortion complications in public hospitals. The report is from a Community and Health System Assessments”, published by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with Ipas, a Non-Governmental Organization that focuses on the elimination of death and injury from unsafe abortion in March 2013.


Football Stakeholders Demand 45 Days Notice

Some football stakeholders including executives of the 10 premier league clubs that are presently participating in the ongoing Super League, on Thursday May 23 2013 at the Josben Complex in Brookfields, Freetown, revealed to journalists that they have brought to the attention of the Normalization Committee to Section 26 (6) of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) constitution. The Section according to them is requiring the SLFA executive to give stakeholders a 45-day notice in lieu of congress.
